A rear seat with a power socket, a stable signal and no one within earshot is a better office than most airport lounges. Our corporate travel clients tell us the first hour of the drive is the most productive of their day: inbox cleared before the first meeting, briefing read before the door opens. Nothing has to be packed away for a security check or a platform change, so the work simply continues from the kerb outside your home to the kerb outside the office.

The vehicle you choose changes how much of that is realistic. A Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the everyday desk. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class adds air suspension and a quieter cabin for the legs where you will be on video. If four of you need to arrive having already had the meeting, the conference seating in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class does the job the train's table seats never quite do.

Rail is quick between two city centres and slow everywhere else. Count the taxi to the station, the buffer you build in because you cannot miss it, the walk at the far end and the wait for a cab you have not booked, and a nominal two-hour journey routinely costs four and a half hours of your day. A car that collects you at the time you name and stops at the address you name removes every one of those margins.

That is why our busiest work is intercity: London to Manchester, Birmingham to Leeds, the long run north to Edinburgh, and the awkward journeys to Oxford or the Cotswolds that rail does not really serve. You depart when you are ready rather than when the timetable says, and if the meeting overruns, the departure time moves with it.

Flights move. A collection time set the week before is a guess, so our airport transfers are planned against the live flight rather than the booking. If you land forty minutes early the car is already there; if you land two hours late nobody has been charged for waiting that was not your fault. Your chauffeur meets you inside the terminal, takes the cases, and walks you to the car rather than describing a pick-up zone over the phone.

We cover the whole of the Heathrow operation and every other terminal an executive itinerary touches — Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Manchester. For private aviation, we coordinate with the FBO so the car is positioned at the approved point, subject as always to the airport's and the operator's own access permissions.

Continuity is the part of the service that is hardest to see and quickest to miss. Where the schedule allows, the chauffeur who collects you on Tuesday morning is the one who takes you to the airport on Thursday night. By the second journey they know which entrance you prefer, that the second call of the day is the one that must not be interrupted, and how much time the car park at that particular client actually takes.

It matters most on financial roadshows and multi-day trips, where a driver who has already done three of the stops is worth more than any amount of routing software. Some days cannot be written down in advance. Three confirmed meetings, a fourth that may happen, and a train home that depends entirely on the third. For those, book the car as directed: it stays with you for the block of hours you reserve, parked and ready, and the itinerary is decided as the day goes rather than the night before.

Chauffeurs are briefed to be silent by default and to speak when spoken to. There is a practical reason as well as a courteous one: a great deal of what gets said in the back of a car on the way to a board meeting is not yet public. Nothing said in the cabin is repeated, no passenger is named to anyone, and no journey is discussed after it ends. Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and DBS-checked before they carry a client.

Discretion also means the arrival itself is unremarkable. A dark saloon at the side entrance attracts nothing; a queue of people at the main door attracts everyone.
